The UNIQUE Core Bore Seal Firestop System is a revolutionary way to firestop, water and smoke-seal abandoned (empty) core holes in fire-rated concrete slabs. No need to access the floor below during installation!

Use our UNIQUE Core Bore Seal (CBS) Firestop System to cover, seal and firestop empty core holes in concrete slabs or walls during construction and post-construction. The Core Bore Seal Firestop System is completely removable if the abandoned core should need to be reclaimed sometime in the future. Made with a heavy steel plate (0.60) and an intumescent firestop muffin (plug), in the event of a fire, the plug expands, filling the core hole and protecting the building and its occupants according to the fire rating of the barrier.

Existing Construction

In existing construction, these core holes are often abandoned when sleeves or conduits in a concrete floor or fire-rated concrete barrier are removed. Prior to the invention of this innovative UNIQUE product, abandoned core holes were often left unsealed, destroying the integrity of the fire-rated barrier. Sometimes they were filled with concrete making the core hole useless in the future. Our Core Bore Firestop System solves both problems, restoring the fire-rated floor to its initial rating while still preserving the function of the core hole in the event it will be used again.

New Construction

In new construction, sometimes extra core holes are drilled, only to find out they won’t be needed for the foreseeable future. Our Core Bore Firestop System effectively seals and firestops empty core holes in  concrete floors especially those that may be used in the future, but not necessarily immediately. Unlike other methods that seal the core hole permanently, the Core Bore Firestop is completely removable!

IMPORTANT NOTE: All jurisdictions require that any breach in a fire-rated floor or wall be filled, even overnight. When you know the core hole will be used fairly soon, consider installing our UNIQUE Threaded Firestop Sleeve System and our UNIQUE Threaded Endcaps for Empty Sleeves. This combo prepares the core hole with our most robust firestop sleeve along with included Intumescent Putty and ensures that the core hole is ready to go on a moment’s notice when the need arises.

Easy to Install with NO TOOLS!

Our Core Bore Firestop System saves installation time and money while meeting all building codes. Made of high-grade steel plate (0.60) and an intumescent firestop muffin (plug), it comes with everything needed to install it except the Silicone Firestop Sealant, available on this website.

IMPORTANT Note About Sealant: Our Core Bore Seal Firestop System was UL tested using Silicone Firestop Sealant (STI brand sealant available on this website) and they must be used together for UL compliance and to obtain AHJ acceptance.

For concrete floor installation, the Core Bore Seal is inserted into the core hole with a 3/8 to 1/2 inch bead of Silicone Firestop Sealant under the top plate. This will smoke seal the Core Bore Seal to the slab. The top plate can be covered by carpet. The system may be removed when the core hole is again needed.

Our CBS Firestop System was UL tested using Silicone Firestop Sealant (STI brand sealant and available on this website) and they must be used together for UL compliance and to obtain AHJ acceptance.
